In 1917 part of his botanical collection was donated by Otto Bjurling to the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
Christian Luerssen (1843-1916) was a professor at Königliches botanisches Institut in Königsberg (now Kaliningrad).
The collection includes European pteridophytes mostly from East and West Prussia collected between 1880 and 1910. The material has been cited i "Luerssen, C., 1894, Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Flora West-und Ostpreussens. I-III. - Bibliotheca Botanica. 6 (28): 1-58, pl. I-XXIII (Stuttgart)."
