Experience the Arctic and Antarctica

The exhibition Polar Tracks takes you to the fascinating worlds of the Arctic and Antarctic, where animals and plants survive in extreme environments. You can visit these areas without leaving Stockholm.

Meet Whales, Polar Bears and Penguins

In the exhibition you can see skeletons of four large whale species: blue whale, gray whale, sperm whale and bowhead whale.

You will also encounter the polar bear hunting seals, the large elephant seals resting on the ice, and various penguin species. In the exhibition Polartrakterna we explain how animals live, hunt, and reproduce in some of the world’s most demanding environments. Why does the emperor penguin stand with an egg on its feet, and how does the blue whale find a partner? With us you’ll get the answers.

Questions and answers

Is the exhibition suitable for children?

Yes! Here you can do many exciting things, e.g., guess which animal makes a sound, see a real blue‑whale skeleton, and pet whale parts. We also have a discovery trail.

Can you buy your ticket to the exhibition in advance?

Yes, the exhibition is included in your entry ticket External link.. The exhibition is shown indefinitely.

Is the exhibition accessible for wheelchair users?

Yes, the whole exhibition can be experienced by people with mobility impairments.

Are the animals in the exhibition real?

Yes, but the animals are not alive. They have been preserved by experts.

What is on the surface of the North‑Cape whale model?

The model is covered with sea pens, small crustaceans. When whales swim through the water, a flow of plankton and tiny organisms passes, which the sea pens can filter and eat.
