Loan from the Environmental Specimen Bank

On this page you will find information on how to apply as well as conditions and criteria for borrowing material from the Environmental Specimen Bank (ESB).

The application process

Applications for loans of materials are processed five times a year. The applications are evaluated based on the set of criteria for borrowing materials from the ESB (given below). It is important to motivate the need to use material from the ESB in the project.

One month after each application deadline the applicant will receive the decision on whether or not the loan has been approved from the ESB. If the loan is granted, the applicant will within two weeks receive an estimated preliminary cost and information about when the samples are expected to be ready for delivery.

An agreement on the sample preparation and delivery will then be prepared. By signing this agreement the applicant undertake to meet the conditions regarding loans from ESBPDF.

Application evaluation criteria

Applications for loans from the ESB are evaluated against the following criteria:

  • The societal benefit of the project in relation to material demand and supply in the ESB.
  • If the project covers new issues or knowledge gaps.
  • How the project is relevant for environmental monitoring or environmental research.
  • That there is a need to use materials from the Environmental Specimen Bank in the project.
  • That the project uses a well-proven method for analysis.
  • That there is a reported plan for financing of the project.
