Hervé Sauquet is mainly interested in the use of phylogenetics to address questions of biological evolution, including morphological evolution and biogeographic history. He obtained his PhD degree from Université Pierre et Marie Curie in 2003. His PhD research, supervised by Annick Le Thomas (École Pratique des Hautes Études, Muséum national d´Histoire naturelle, Paris) and James A. Doyle (University of California, Davis) focused on the phylogeny and evolution of Myristicaceae and Magnoliales. His research in the department concentrated on the use of pollen morphology of modern and fossil Proteaceae to address the biogeographic history of this family, as part of a wider collaborative project on the evolutionary history of Proteales, supervised by David Cantrill and also involving Thomas Denk, Else Marie Friis and Maria von Balthazar.  He moved to the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney (Australia 2006-2007) and then to the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew on a Marie Curie outgoing incoming fellowship where continued to develop aspects of his research into the Proteaceae. Today Hervé has a position as Assistant Professor at Université Paris-Sud 11 in Orsay (France).
