Lars curates the bryophyte herbarium of the museum, including more than 700 000 specimens. Area of research
His research aims at resolving phylogenetic relationships among pleurocarpous mosses, at different levels, and he has especially worked with wetland mosses belonging to the families Amblystegiaceae and Calliergonaceae. At the moment, patterns of infraspecific variation are the main focus within this field. He is also interested in finding explanations for the presence of various character states among pleurocarpous mosses, and in this field he currently focuses on sporophytic adaptations in epiphytic species, as well as on selected reproductive traits. Lars has written or writes parts of moss floras for northern Europe, North America, the Neotropics, Madeira, Uganda, and Australia.Project
