My research has been focused on phylogenetic relationships in various groups of Angiosperms, e.g. the families of the Ericales but most recently the sun-flower family (Asteraceae), a group of plants in which I first started scientific work for my Ph.D. thesis. In my research I have used both morphological and DNA sequence data. A first molecular phylogeny of the Ericales was published in 2002 with many new insights on relationships between families and evolutionary lineages. Subsequent studies have focused on e.g. Ericaceae (2002), Sapotaceae (2003), Lecythidaceae (2007). Trying to entangle the historical evolutionary patterns behind the diversity of the Asteraceae has also been one of the main goals of my research, which has included finding secure resting places for small genera that previous workers have had difficulties placing. My research was funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR) between 1990 and 2014.
