My research is collection-based and focused on freshwater fish systematics, predominantly in the tropics. Focal groups are cichlids (family Cichlidae) and cyprinids (family Cyprinidae), which are among the most prominent vertebrate families. The research aims to uncover phylogenetic relationships using molecular and morphological analyses and includes also field work to find and describe new species. I am also interested in zoological nomenclature and have been involved in major database projects such as GBIF, threat status assessments, inventories of rare Swedish fishes, marine fish taxonomy, and DNA barcoding. My funding has come from various sources, including the European Commission, SIDA, The Swedish Research Council, and CAPES (Brazil).
Project I. Genetic characterization of freshwater fishes in Bangladesh using DNA barcodes
Project II. Biogeografía e inter-relações de ciclídeos com ênfase no gêneros Australoheros, Crenicichla e Gymnogeophagus do sul do América do Sul (Perciformes: Cichlidae)
