Birds – Ornithology

Welcome to the Ornithology pages! Here we present the collections and our current research activities in avian taxonomy, systematics and biogeography.
The ornithological research at the Department of Vertebrate zoology is divided into two subject groups. The Ornithology group perform research on biogeography, taxonomy and systematics, and research on ecology and bird migration is performed at the Bird Ringing Centre. This is the homepage of the Ornithology group.

The ornithological collections include bird skins, bird eggs, skeletons and blood and tissue samples. The collections are based on materials collected during field trips to various parts of the world but also on birds collected through the Swedish legislation on wild animals. Cooperation with museums in other countries is another important source for the improvement of our collections.
