Responsibilities
I am affiliated with the Swedish Museum of Natural History as guest researcher. My research focuses on the palaeontology of the early skeletal biotas and carbon isotope stratigraphy of the Cambrian Period. I also work with the microfossil collection and database.
Research Interests
My research interests are palaeontology, stratigraphy, and geochemistry of the Precambrian-Cambrian transition and Cambrian Period. My work deals with the establishment of animals on Earth during the ‘Cambrian Explosion’ and contributes to the improvement of regional and global stratigraphic correlation.
I mainly use material from the Siberian Platform obtained during my field trips and deposited at the Swedish Museum of Natural History. Skeletal microstructures and biomineralization in several of the earliest groups of animals are being investigated, including cnidarians, molluscs, hyoliths, brachiopods, arthropods, and echinoderms. Currently I work on the oldest part of the Cambrian sequence of the Siberian Platform.
My palaeobiological research of the early skeletal faunas is complemented by carbon isotope analyses and chemostratigraphic correlations of the early Cambrian beds across the Siberian Platform and worldwide. My research contributes to the foundation of the lower Cambrian Stage 2, yet unnamed by the International Subcommission on Cambrian Stratigraphy.
