  • Monitoring of contaminants in the Swedish natural environment
  • The Environmental Specimen Bank
  • Animals protected by special regulations
  • Bird ringing
  • Pollen and spore reports and forecasts

The Swedish Museum of Natural History contributes, through its research and broad expertise, to a better understanding of the environment and its sustainable use. The Man and the Environment theme comprises monitoring and research related to environmental issues, as well as ecological research. Monitoring of environmental contaminants and study of their effects, as well as continual development of the Environmental Specimen Bank containing frozen tissue, are important parts of this work. Data collection on distributions and numbers of different organisms, administration of the Swedish bird ringing scheme, and production of pollen and spore reports and forecasts for the public are other subjects covered by this theme.
