GRANA - a Journal of Palynology and Aerobiology. Published by the Scandinavian Palynological Collegium.
Grana, originally Grana Palynologica, was founded in 1954 by Professor Gunnar Erdtman. Since 1970 Grana has been published under the auspices of the Scandinavian Palynological Collegium (CPS), the society of palynologists for the Scandinavian countries.
The Collegium was started in 1969 by Gunnar Erdtman and a group of Nordic palynologists with the aim to stimulate the interest in palynology and to coordinate palynological research in the Nordic countries. The Association was to also ensure the continuity and publication of the journal Grana Palynologica, now GRANA.
The Collegium as well as GRANA have roots in quaternary to recent palynology, which flourished in the Nordic countries in the forties to fifties. The activities of the Collegium ceased in the sixties, while GRANA continued to flourish. In 1970-1980 many creative palynologists found work within geology and the expanding oil-prospecting going on in the Nordic countries.
After a few passive years, a new need for society contacts led to reactivation of the Collegium. The coordination and regular holding of Nordic Palynological Meetings now has become an activity which has contributed to bringing together a new generation of palynologists in the society as well as socially.
There are now some 140 members in the four Nordic countries. The society grows steadily and GRANA is a well respected Journal of Palynology and Aerobiology.
