I am responsible for the routine and non-routine operation and maintenance of the Nordsim ionprobe instrument (Cameca IMS-1280) and supporting facilities, user training and assistance, data handling and development of analytical methods and reference materials. I am also supposed to get involved in the interpretation of isotopic data from diverse geological materials, including extraterrestrial and biogenic samples. This extends to the in-depth discussions with users and collaborators about potential projects, analytical strategies and new approaches to solve some specific geologic questions.
My research interests are as summarized: (1) Continental crust formation and growth (juvenile and recycled); (2) Recycling of surface crustal materials to form the next generation of crust; (3) Preserved isotopic records in ancient materials, typically zircon and its inclusions; (4) Microscale analysis in multidisciplinary geosciences; (5) Particle analysis of environmental samples for safeguards using an ionprobe; (6) SIMS method/material developments including characterizing (potential) reference materials, modifying analytical recipes and/or data reducing schemes to improve the data quality, developing new applications of (non-SIMS-routine) isotopic systems and/or minerals.
