PRE-MAL
Museum collections are not replaceable - every object is unique. However, collections in museums, churches, archives and libraries are constantly at risk of damage. One of the big threats is insect pests. From the human point-of-view, pest insects can be defined as insects being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
In Sweden, the working group PRE-MAL (Pest Research and Education - Museums Archives and Libraries) is led by the Swedish Museum of Natural History. Experts in textile, wood and paper conservation, taxidermy, entomology and occupational medicine are represented. The work has been supported by The Swedish Council for Work Life Research, The Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs and The Ministry of Culture. The group has also been participating in the European Union financed project "Save Art".
