SYNTHESYS Course in Management,


Conservation and Care of Natural History Collections, 23-27 April 2007

SYNTHESYS course Stockhiolm
Network Activity C (Collection Standards) within the SYNTHESYS project  arranged a course in the management, conservation and care of natural history collections.

Aim 
This course was intended to raise awareness of current thinking and sources of information along with further training in collections management rather than detailed technical training. It will serve to support the improvement of all facets of curation of Europe ´s most significant collections.

Participants  
The course was aimed at those in management positions with responsibility for collections care and management at European natural history institutions. Participants are supposed to forward the information to the staff of their own institutions and to other museums in their country. The number of participants was limited to fifteen persons, due to the practical sessions.

Course outcome
A broader knowledge in collection care and management
Information sources in collection care and management
A tool for using benchmarking and risk assessment in collection care
Knowledge of ways to improve collection care in the institution
