Cretaceous angiosperms of eastern North America

Else Marie Friis

This project is concentrated on Early and mid-Cretaceous floras from the Potomac Group sequence, and one flora from the Late Cretaceous of North Carolina (Neuse River). The floras are relatively well dated and a major objective of the research project is to provide a detailed description of the angiosperm components in the floras and to analyse changes in phylogenetic and functional diversity of angiosperm reproductive organs from the earliest phases of angiosperm differentiation to the first major radiation of core eudicots. Currently the work is focused on a single Early Cretaceous flora from the Albian (Puddledock) that is particularly rich in floral structures and that represent one of the earliest floras with a diverse assemblage of eudicot angiosperms.
