The 1M € upgrade of Nordsim´s 14-year old Cameca IMS1270 to an IMS1280, co-funded by the Nordic consortium partners and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, has now started.
Already we have taken delivery of most of the new electronics and vacuum system and pre-upgrade performance tests have been completed. The facility will close on October 3rd and dismounting of the old electronics and vacuum system will begin immediately. Essential lab. renovations will also be carried out at this time. Installation of new electronics will begin on November 3rd and is expected to take about a month. We hope to welcome external users toEurope ´s first IMS1280 facility early in 2009.
