How can the Department of Invertebrate Zoology help you?

Free of charge

  • Private persons, governmental and communal organisations: Short questions; hints on further reading; identifications of single animals. Information on our collections and specimens (according to our capacity). Contacts with other specialists. (Begin by asking the "Museum biologist in charge", who will direct you to the appropriate person).
  • Scientists: Loans, search for specimens, types, occasionally also literature (photocopies), information about other Swedish natural history collections and invertebrate researchers. Occasionally, photo or histological services.
  • Educational purposes: Loan of specimens.
  • Swedish Museums:The Swedish Museum of Natural History has the status of "Ansvarsmuseum", meaning that it has some scanty resources from the government to assist other Swedish museums with natural history collections, with advice on storage, non-commercial value, use, and other aspects. We are always prepared to assist.

Paid services

  • Identification: Identification or other information about animals on a larger or more time consuming scale (according to our competence), especially for commercial purposes.
  • Translations: Translation of names of animals.
  • Loan:Loan of specimens for commercial purposes, exhibits.
  • Histology: Histological services when capacity is available

What can we not help with?

  • Commercial purposes: Photos or illustrations for general or commercial purposes.
  • Pamphlets: Booklets or pamphlets on invertebrates, in general as well as more specific.
  • Guiding tours: Guiding or other personal services.
  • Advices: Advice on pests, pesticides, commercial aspects
  • Evaluation: Economic values of natural history objects
