Phylogeny and systematics of Coleoptera (beetles), higher level, and the aquatic Adephagan families. Aquatic beetle fauna of Madagascar, taxonomy, species radiations, evolution. DNA Barcoding — problems and potentials.

Sexual conflicts and arms races between the sexes in diving beetles. Phylogenetic methodology, model choice, artefacts, etc. Speciality: Coleoptera, aquatic beetles - in particular the Adephagan families. Phylogenetic analyses and methodology.
