MSc University of Vienna, Austria, 2013
I work mainly with curation, sorting, digitalisation (photography) and database registration of the department's collections. I also assist researchers with curation of their samples, light and scanning electron microscopy, laboratory, and research work.
My work focuses on terrestrial Paleogene and Neogene pollen and spores of the northern hemisphere and their palaeoecological and palaeogeographical implications. My main expertise is in extant and fossil angiosperm pollen.
At the moment I am working on pollen and plant fossils from Neogene localities of the eastern Mediterranean region. From the late Oligocene onwards this region was a biogeoraphic melting pot connecting Europe, Asia and Africa.
One of the most interesting aspects of my work is the high amount of information that can be extracted from each sample containing pollen and spores. Often a few grams of sediment are enough to be able to reconstruct the vegetation of the surrounding area when this was deposited.
