Management of the Vegacenter, which is a component facility of the NordSIMS-Vegacenter national research infrastructure jointly funded by the Swedish Research Council and the Museum. The Vegacenter operates two inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers: a Plasma II multi-collector and an AttoM high resolution single collector, both by Nu Instruments. These can be run in solution mode, or be coupled to an NWR193 excimer laser ablation system for in-situ analysis of solid materials.
My responsibilities include evaluation of user proposals (together with the steering committee); management of staff and instrument resources; analytical work and method development; and obtaining operating and research funding.
My research focuses on techniques in radioisotope geochemistry, geochronology, and trace-element analysis, mostly by means of laser ablation mass spectrometry. I apply these techniques to reconstruct the timing and rate of a diverse range of crustal and Earth-surface processes, including orogenesis, dynamic topography, and continental ice sheet stability.
In particular, I am interested in accessing the archive of past Earth processes hosted in detrital sediment, and in the development of new sediment provenance proxies.
